Culls cottage is a traditional stone built cottage the original part of which was built in the 1670's. As a consequence it has all the features that are typical of a cottage, with low, beamed and slopping ceilings (upstairs) as well as some low doorways and some changes of level within the house.
We have tried to make this website as informative as possible with views of all the rooms and a layout plan. We welcome all visitors but we know that this cottage may not be accessible for everyone, such as those in a wheel chair.
The cottage sits on the main thoroughfare through the village of Southrop and parking is on the road outside the cottage.
Access to the cottage is through a door at the rear. There is a small gate and gravel path that runs up the side of the cottage to the door which is lit during hours of darkness. The back door leads directly into the lounge, which has a wood burning stove. The flooring throughout the ground floor is flag stones. Most of the ground floor is even and on the same level but there is a small step down into the kitchen area of approximately two inches.
There is a toilet and wet room shower area off the downstairs lounge and a bedroom also on the ground floor - so this house would suit someone who is not able to easily manage stairs.
The stairs run off the lounge and are a good width and have a solid hand rail. The stairs and upstairs (with the exception of the bathroom) is carpeted. The upstairs landing area has a change of level to bedroom number two and another change in level to the bathroom. This bathroom has an under floor heated stone floor and a luxury double ended bath and toilet.
The garden is large and contains gravelled areas and lawn, with a mature willow tree that provides shade in the summer. Having been recently landscaped the garden will continue to evolve with new plantings.
